Distinguish between what’s “above the line” and what’s “below the line.” Below the line is just doing what’s expected. If you get it right, nobody cares. If you get it wrong, or miss the boat, everybody gets upset. Above the line is where people look for real value. When you’re doing your job, some things are just expected. You need to ask, what’s above the line that really counts?
